Welcome to Trail Tales, a story walk project

WHAT IS A TRAIL TALE?

A Trail Tale  is an outdoor reading activity that allows children, families, and people of all ages to read a story while walking along a nature trail. Pages of a story are placed on posts on a trail, combining literacy and physical activity into one enjoyable experience.

Also known as StoryWalks, the concept was developed by Ann Ferguson in conjunction with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpellier, Vermont in 2007 as a way to encourage families to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Since their inception, Story Strolls have been installed in all 50 states and 13 countries. In Bucks County, both the Southampton and Feasterville libraries have placed story walks  in Tamamend Park, Tyler State Park and Playwicki Farm respectively.

The Trail Tale begins near the playground in Laurel Park and wraps around the parameter of the park. Stories will be changed out monthly and the library is certainly open to requests. The project is made possible by Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Office of Commonwealth Libraries, the cooperation of Solebury Township and the Friends of the Library.

Enjoy!
