Grassroots Picnic Project
A weekly community picnic, run by the Free Library of New Hope & Solebury during Summer Reading
Tuesday Evenings from 6/16 through 8/18, 5-7pm on the NHS-SD practice field on Bridge Street, near the District Offices

This summer, pack a picnic, grab your friends, and gather with the Library!

We’ll have music, snacks, crafts, and a chance to talk about how to shape our community’s future. With different featured guests each week, we’ll hear from neighbors, organizers, elected officials and more about what they’re doing in our own backyard. And, importantly, they will hear from YOU! Part picnic, part workshop, all fun! Bring your ideas, your friends, and your enthusiasm - let’s build up our community toolkit to make real change at home.

PLUS: Lolly Hopwood's super popular Musical Evening Storytime will take place during the picnic at 5:30! This interactive story time is filled with imagination and movement that gets the families up and using their bodies and their minds. With props like parachutes, pom poms, scarves, bubbles, and puppets, these programs are a memorable time for the whole family. Please note that Lolly will not be at the Grassroots Picnic Project on 7/14 or 8/4.

Kids Yoga
10:30am on Wednesdays during Summer Reading at the Free Library of New Hope & Solebury
Learn simple yoga poses, playful breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques in a half hour class with Ms. Courtney! Incorporating songs, games, stories, and art, this class brings yoga to life for kids! Registration appreciated but not required for this program.

Welcome to Mahjong at the New Hope - Solebury Library! We're thrilled to offer weekly games for Mahjong players of all levels. If you're new or just starting Mahjong, please join us! While we don't have a dedicated teacher on site, there are any number of experienced players who are available for the occasional question and spectating is always fine.

Everything is provided, just bring yourself or better yet, a friend!

Mahjong is every Wednesday from 1-3pm, please call 215-862-2330 if you have any questions. Registration is recommended for head count purposes but not required to attend.

Learn how to crochet! Feel free to bring your own supplies or borrow yarn and crochet hooks from the Library.

There will be four sessions every other Wednesday, beginning July 8th, from 2 to 3:30pm. Attending all four sessions is not required. For ages 12 and up!

This is an open-ended advanced crafting studio that is available to any patron ages 13+. Participants must be able to handle items such as a hot glue guns, woodburners and modeling knives carefully and safely.

This is a weekly program that offers the use of various craft tools and supplies, including our 3D printer, for any and all projects that patrons are interested in pursuing.

Big Summer Book Club: Featuring Holes by Louis Sachar
Free Library of New Hope & Solebury
6/17, 7/22 and 8/5 at 4pm

It's the Big Summer Book Club! This summer, we're all reading Holes, by Louis Sachar. In this 1998 Newbery Award winning middle grade novel, Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes. It doesn't take long for Stanley to realize there's more than character improvement going on at Camp Green Lake. The boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dried-up lake? Stanley tries to dig up the truth in this inventive and darkly humorous tale of crime and punishment — and redemption.

The book is divided into three parts, so we'll be discussing Part One on 6/17, Part Two on 7/22 and Part Three on 8/5. Already read Holes? Want to come and chat about what you're reading this summer? Welcome to Chess Class for Beginners, taught by our own volunteer Kabir! This is a free series of classes for completely new players, focusing on the fundamentals of play and designed to teach the delights of this ancient game to new students.

You MUST sign up for each class you wish to attend. Due to limited class size, we ask that you only sign up for the sessions you can make.

We meet 2x a week, every Monday at 11 - 12:30pm and Thursday at 3 - 4:30pm.
